How the installer works

What happens when you install a spec into your HubSpot portal, and how to undo it.

Before you start

A licence with the installer. The full library, Agency Lifetime, Studio, or a category pack bought with the installer option. The free specs are read and built by hand: the installer does not take them.

A portal on Professional or Enterprise. Workflows do not exist below Professional. On HubSpot's seat pricing that is your account's edition; on per-hub plans, the Professional plan of the hub each spec names. Each spec page states both.

Someone who can connect an app. HubSpot asks a super admin, or a user allowed to install apps, to accept the permissions below.

1. Connect your portal

Open the install link from your purchase email, or the install page, and pick the specs you want. Continue to the portal: HubSpot shows its own authorisation screen.

What the screen asks for. Create workflows; create and read the properties of contacts, companies and deals; read and create lists; read contacts. Tickets only if you also accept the optional ticket permissions, for the ticket specs. Choose the portal, accept, and you are back on the install page.

2. Install

Review the list and press Install. One line per spec shows its progress.

For each spec, in this order. The properties it needs, skipping any that already exist; the lists it uses; the workflow, switched off, its name starting with "Workflow Library:"; and a task in the portal that lists what the API cannot create, such as a marketing email, a team, or a score criterion.

By hand. Specs that run on a custom object of your own, or on quotes, are marked "By hand" and are not installed: their page and PDF say how to build them.

3. After the install

Nothing is switched on, enrolled or deleted. Open the task, finish its steps, review the workflow, run the UAT script that ships with the spec, then turn it on yourself.

Installing more specs, or the same ones again, in a portal already activated is free.

Portals and licences

A portal counts once, at its first install, by its HubSpot account id. A category pack with the installer covers 1 portal, the full library 3, an extra portal one more; Studio opens 5 new portals a month; Agency Lifetime has no limit. The terms hold the detail.

Disconnect and remove

Access. An install runs on a HubSpot access token that we hold for 30 minutes, then it is gone. We hold no refresh token, so once those 30 minutes are over the installer cannot reach your portal.

Remove the app. In HubSpot, Settings, Integrations, Connected apps, then uninstall The Workflow Library.

What stays. The workflows, properties and lists created in your portal are yours. Delete them in HubSpot if you no longer want them: the workflows are the ones whose name starts with "Workflow Library:".
